Captains…Save the date, Sunday April 29, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Bath House Cultural Center in the White Rock Lake Park. If you were at the DATES Annual Meeting then you heard Christy Householter and Julie Johnson from the Texas Association of Blind Athletes talk about their organization and the idea of having a Blind DATES ride.
We have set the above date and time for this event. What we need is for DATES captains and anyone else with a tandem to show up with your tandem where you will be matched with a visually impaired athlete for a ride around the lake. Julie Johnson is going to send a roster to me with names and heights of the people who will be joining us.
She is also going to give a rough estimate of their fitness level on a 1 to 5 scale just so we some idea of where they stand. Knowing their height will let us do an initial matching before the event. There will be a range of ages from age 13 and up. They all play goalball which is a vigorous field game but many may never have ridden a bicycle.
You may have to adjust your seat post a bit so bring your Allen key set or we will have tools there. Also, we are going to need platform pedals. Most will not have bike shoes. This will be a fun experience and an opportunity to share your love of bicycling, not to mention a way to expand your universe of friends.
Come ride with a VIP (Visually Impaired Person)!
RSVP (with the height of your stoker)
